Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Facial cosmetic surgery involves a facial plastic surgeon altering a person's face by implant or reduction. Plastic surgeons should be licensed by the American board of Plastic Surgery. Plastic surgeons of good standing have privileges that have been earned to perform plastic surgery at accredited hospitals. Part of the criteria for choosing a plastic surgeon, and especially when undergoing a facial plastic surgery procedure, is viewing before and after photos of the surgeons work.

Cosmetic procedures performed on the face can be facelifts, forehead lifts, and ear procedures. Facial cosmetic surgery may also involve implants to the cheekbones and chin as well as procedures to reconstruct or reduce the nose. Cosmetic eye enhancements are performed due to sagging lids, and also for removal of "bags" from beneath the eye or, if patient and physician agree, for other aesthetic reasons.

Persons requiring cosmetic surgery involving the face may have trauma related reasons, such as sustaining an injury to a particular part of the face and needing that part of the face skillfully repaired as not to leave permanent scarring and as little evidence of injury as possible, or due to congenital problems such as ears that are too large, an under developed chin or cleft lip to name a few.
